Pope Francis Catholic Elementary School and the YMCA Child Care Centre is currently undergoing renovations to the existing school and the construction of a two storey addition. Drawing from the cultural fabric of Northern Ontario and the religious teachings of the school, the design aims to connect the students to each other, their community and the outside world. The design incorporates a central atrium that acts as the connector from the existing school to the addition with views to the sky. Catholic and First Nations symbolism were weaved throughout the space to create a place of inclusion and belonging. The YMCA Child Care Centre is now open as of May 1, 2018 with Pope Francis to follow for September 1, 2018.
