Staking out the Future
The Muskoka Condominium Corporation (MCC) is situated in the Muskoka wilderness on what as once a luxurious summer resort in the Lake of Bays. A number of the resort’s landmark buildings have been retained and renovated, and are used by the MCC and a neighbouring golf course.
The condominium owners requested a master plan for the redevelopment of their beachfront, marina, park space and playgrounds. The areas adjacent to the site had yet to be fully developed, but were likely to be.
To avoid a feeling of encroachment by neighbours, Bortolotto’s strategy was to stake out the perimeter, optimizing land use and enjoyment prior to adjacent development. This involved establishing generous piers at either end of the beach, routing a running track around the periphery and locating recreational activities at the border.
